Georgetown Savings Bank operates its IT center out of its main Georgetown location and includes 10 physical servers that house the company's lending and financial applications, email, general ledger, and accounts payable/receivable applications. Georgetown Savings Bank previously relied on an obsolete Sony AIT tape-based system and was looking at several options, including tape and online backup, as well as other backup options in general.
The bank chose the QuorumLabs onQ appliance over several other alternatives due to onQ's overall functionality and its fast recovery time. onQ allows the bank to recover data and applications within minutes should a disaster occur. "onQ incorporates everything into a single appliance, from disk-based backup to disaster recovery. There's no need for multiple appliances, or a SAN, or other solutions,"said Jim Allen. "Plus, onQ lets us easily and regularly test our systems using only the appliance - previously, we had no way of efficiently testing our Windows servers."
In addition, "onQ's day-to-day file restore is great!" said Allen. "With our previous tape system, if a user lost a file, we had to retrieve tapes from offsite storage, hope they are good, find the proper file, and restore. With onQ, we can recover specific user files with a single click instead of the much lengthier process that's involved with recovery from tape."
